I'm still reverberating from the hilarity of the Yakitori sauce expert's review. A lot of Vancouverites see the DSM as a "to do" list I suppose.
I've been coming here for years, and have adored every meal I was served. Classy owner, well-prepared food, and very reasonably priced. In the face of all the unbearably twee eateries that have appeared on Bowen like a bad yeast infection recently, this is one of the redoubts of normalcy.
Fundamentally, this was designed as a take out eatery ( the "to go"is probably a giveaway), so you will encounter few-if any-seated diners here.
People expecting perfection wherever they go: the epidemic malaise of a subset of Vancouverites. It's a joke that never gets stale. -

We dropped by on a Monday because there weren't many options open but were pleasantly surprised. The food is fresh and quite well done. Didn't think it would be good since we are from Vancouver and have so many great choices in Vancouver. We had bi bim bop which was really fresh with lettuce in it. And sashimi combo was amazing. Fresh fish and tempura was done well. Happy we went and highly recommended :)

Eeek, there was hair in the radish!
But, let's begin from the beginning.
Bown Island has very limited choices for eaters. We looked up Yelp and Urbanspoon and Travelguide reviews and saw that this was the only eatery that has high marks in all three, We went to this place, with a sign that says SUSHI TO GO, saw no one inside, then walked to other restaurants, most of which were closed on a Monday.
So, back we went to BOWEN SUSHI TO GO, which seems to be its correct name.
We were the only customers the whole time. There were no customers coming in for take out the hour we were there.
The Yakitori chicken was odd sliced, very thin, and very dry and tough. The chicken meat was cleverly sliced thin. The Yakitori sauce (I am very knowledgable about Yakiotori sauces) was of very poor quality imo.
The "smoked salmon salad" had very tiny sliced of smoked salmon and a lot of mayo.
The "house sushi" seemed to be made of remnants of celery, avocado, and whatever else they had.
We did not enjoy it.
Prices are not low, either.
We pointed out the hair in the food (not from our group, since the colour was black), and the lady cashier waiter just smiled.
The Shug on Bowne Island is a better choice, but the Snug does not serve dinner. -

We recently visited Bowen Island, and visted this Sushi Cafe, run by a Korean couple. Not having really tried any Korean food, I decided on their Bibimbap, based on the brief description. It came with barbequed beef, raw carrots and cucumbers, over rice, and topped with a fried egg, then sprinkled with sesame oil. It was an okay meal, but I didn't really care for the sesame oil, so would leave that out next time. The others ordered sushi, and some rolls. The consensus was that it was okay, but nothing special. If I wanted sushi to take out and enjoy on the boat, I would go back, but if I wanted to sit and enjoy a meal, I would pick somewhere else.
